Canadian Freestyle Nationals - Canada Olympic Park, March 23
Congratulations to all our athletes who competed this last weekend. After a week of training on the course the SS comp went off on Sunday March 23.
Athletes representing the Calgary Freeriderz were Willy O, Mark H, Colin, H, Colin B, Matt C. Sam M and Austin C had injuries and decided not to compete.
There was some stiff competition in the 2 run qualifiers. 46 male athletes were in attendance from Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and the Yukon.
The morning was cold, overcast, high winds and lightly snowing which made for slow conditions with low visibility. As the day progressed the weather improved with sunshine, reduced winds and the speed of the snow greatly improved.
Our athletes had great results in the qualifies with Colin B, Matt C and Mark H making it to finals.
The pressure was high as the 12 finalists had some outstanding runs. Mark H won gold, Colin B came in a respectable 8th place followed by Matt C in 11th place.
Calgary Freeriderz takes 1st! One more for Mark!
The COP Senior Nationals was one tough competition with cold, wind and extremely difficult terrain but Calgary Freeriderz took podium. Mark H, that was one incredible show! First place with a perfect “switch 270 on front 270 out, switch on front 4, dub 9, switch right 10, switch 270 on"! I guess you have to be an athlete to know what they means. Truly amazing! 46 athletes in all of which Freeriderz had seven compete. Scary conditions as they were, we captured not only 1st but also 8th and 11th with two additional great performances by our two Colins.
Congratulation to ALL the athletes. who participated. It was a very difficult competition.
And to speedy recoveries for the many who took unfortunately injuries, including two of our own! Get well soon.
